Get Dramatic in Your Bath Design
A bath remodel is the perfect opportunity to inject some drama into your interior design. This year has several trends that can hugely transform your bath design. Whether you embrace them all, or just one, you won’t regret placing your bathroom center stage.
Dark and Moody
Black bathrooms are big news this year, overtaking last year’s rich tones. Black is sophisticated and complements most accent colors. It’s also easy to maintain, showing up less dirt than white. Make it more interesting by varying textures and adding metallic accessories. Surfaces in a high shine make black particularly glamorous as light bounces around the room. Even just add gothic black accessories to create a design statement like in this bathroom remodel in Grosse Pointe.
White and Gray
White is still a classic choice but add a pop of vivid color or go monochrome with check or stripes for a striking look on floors or walls. Gray is still a popular and chic look but consider your chosen shade of gray and the effect it will have on your bath design. Keep it to darker shades of gray and vary the textures to ensure your design has a strong impact or go for cool tones for an effortless spa like feel. As well as metallics, wood goes well with gray, warming up any blandness in this neutral color palette.
Showers and Baths
2020 has seen a rise in shower upgrades in bath designs. Large, thresholdless showers are leading the way. Bigger, multiple shower heads and luxury features such as steam have really taken off. Combine a large, open shower with these features and faucets in black or gold to add drama to a design. Top it off with textured stone or diagonal tiles for a real wow factor in your bathroom remodel. If you’re keeping a tub, why not invest in a roll top model or a tub in a striking color to make it the star of the show?
Sinks
You can’t beat a vessel sink for style and impact. Place your bowl-like sink on a countertop made from an interesting material such as terrazzo, concrete, resin or lava. The sink can be contrasting in metal, glass, natural stone or wood for dramatic effect.
Walls and Floors
If you want to focus on your floor, then keep your toilets and vanities floating. Large, glossy tiles work well for a spa-style design and an expansive, shiny white floor can be stunning. Try vinyl, terrazzo or polished concrete for a strong color and interesting finishes. You could include a large tile focal point in the center of the floor or create a border in a contrasting material. Mosaic or tiles with intricate or mismatched patterns are on trend in backsplashes and shower enclosures. Improved vinyl wallpaper with stunning designs is in for 2020 or try a huge piece of art. With small spaces such as showers or niche shelving, more is more when it comes to pattern, especially to provide contrast if your fixtures are sleek or contemporary.
Metallics
Metallics are here to stay and can really bring the wow factor to your bath design. Brushed or stainless steel, brass and hammered copper are just some of the shiny looks you can introduce in your remodel. Shelving, cabinet hardware, light fixtures, faucets, showerheads, countertops and baths are all available in stunning metallics and can transform a bath design. Try a large gold-framed mirror set against a black accent wall to make a stylish impact as you enter the room.
Lighting
2020 has been a big year for statement lighting in bath design. Chandeliers, sconces and uplighting under tubs are all hugely on trend. Chromotherapy is also on the rise and is perfect for adding drama to a bath renovation. It involves using colored lighting that can be changed with voice control and is thought to be beneficial for relaxation and healing. For example, you could have red accent lighting in the shower and bright blue under your vanity. Metallics also help with this trend as they bounce light around the room in a highly effective way.
